About the Artist

It is the wonderment  of colour in the world that drives Marg Smith to put brush to canvas.

An Albertan by birth, Marg now lives in Okotoks and loves the amazing sunsets, the fantastic mountains, foothills, and prairies as well as scenes from around the world in such diverse vivid conditions. Marg’s goal is to convey that excitement, to evoke in the viewer that same “WOW!” feeling that she gets when observing that particular moment in time.

Marg Smith works in oils but also has used acrylics and watercolour. In order to achieve the light and colour in her paintings often, adds a translucent colour that will unify the painting. Smith regularly paints alla prima in oils but does on occasion paint certain paintings in thin layers (glazes) of oil..
Marg has taken workshops great artists, such as Andrew Kiss, Roger Arndt, Murray Phillips, Doug Swinton, Jon Einersson, and Neil Patterson. Smith is an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists. She also belongs to the Visual Art Society of Alberta (VAAA), CARFAC, the Alberta Society of Artists, the Leighton Centre, Okotoks Art Gallery, and High River Art Society. .

Marg Smith is represented by Dalcon Visual Arts, Wetaskawin, AB. Her artwork can also be viewed at the Leighton Art Centre, Millarville, AB; the Highwood Art Gallery in High River, Alberta; Okotoks Art Gallery, Okotoks, AB; on line at http://margsmithfineart.com; or by appointment in her studio.
