About the Artist

A-1 since Day One

Christopher "Day One" Carlson is an independent First Nations artist from Maskwacis, Alberta, but you can likely find him posted up with a canvas and paint marker anywhere in the province. Day One has established himself as a creator with the ability of displaying his passion for indigenous culture while blending it with modern hip-hop symbolism.

Day One has competed in many art battles throughout Central Alberta and has had his artwork displayed in multiple galleries including this one at Dalcon Visual Arts in Wetaskiwin, AB.

Coming to Red Deer in (2012?) with nothing but a folder of prints and a few supplies, Chris recalls heading to Slumland Theatre for a hip-hop show, not knowing anybody or whether or not his artwork could possibly sell. The hip-hop community quickly took him in, allowing Day One to display his artwork at basically every event from that point on.

His live painting displays have been a popular attraction to every show he attends, often gaining him respect from not only fans, but touring artists such as SonReal, Madchild, Emtionz and more.
